It's been a year since the ‘announcement' of the 1.3 update of the mobile version of Terraria. I have deleted and redownloaded this game on my iPhone a few times. Every time there is some news on the update, I would redownload the game, work my way back to post Ocram or Duke Fishron, try and get every obtainable item. Terraria mobile rebuilt from the ground up – new and improved and now including all of the content from the epic journey's end 1.4 update! 'This is the full version of Terraria, built from the ground up.

Greetings, Terrarians!

It has been a long journey indeed, but one that reaches a fantastic conclusion this morning. That's right, Terraria 1.3 for iOS and Android launches today!!! Want more details? Check out our full release notes on the Terraria Community Forums Mobile Launch thread linked below - but, remember, even this is not an exhaustive list. Terraria is a game of exploration, so get out there and explore (or check the wiki, if you are so inclined) if you want to know everything.

TERRARIA MOBILE REIMAGINED: NEW MOBILE UI, CONTROLS, & MORE!

But wait - there's much, much more! Mobile Terraria 1.3 is far more than just the massive ton of content listed above. This version of the game is ground-up complete re-imagining of Terraria for mobile devices. This means a brand new User Interface, completely revamped control system, tons of new settings and much more. Below, we cover some of the bigger topics along with links to special guide pages with additional information on each item.

CONTROLS

Mobile Terraria 1.3 includes a completely revamped control scheme, aimed at providing more options and capabilities to players than ever before. The controls were built with flexibility in mind - so there often will be multiple ways to conduct a given action. We encourage everyone to take the time to find out what works best for their own style and in each situation.

Check out a detailed introduction to the new Terraria Mobile Controls with our guide located here:

TERRARIA MOBILE CONTROLS INTRODUCTION

USER INTERFACE

Mobile Terrarians now have access to the full capabilities within the Terraria User Interface, circa 1.3. That's right, everything from using the Housing Interface to assign (or evict) NPCs to specific rooms to checking crafting recipes with the Guide - it's all here!

These should be pretty self-explanatory as you explore your new UI.. but we left a few screens in the spoilers below to show some of the most important ones.

GUIDE CRAFTING INTERFACE

Terraria Mobile 1.3 Update Release Date

Speak with the Guide, select 'Crafting' and then simply select any item in your inventory to have the Guide pull up a list of everything that can be crafted using the selected item. Recipes and even crafting stations needed are shown underneath the Guide's UI.

HOUSING INTERFACE What does pubg run on.

Open your Inventory and choose the Housing icon. From here you can see if a house is valid (the ? icon) or assign/evict NPCs to valid rooms as you see fit. If a room is occupied, tap the NPC banner to evict that NPC and then simply choose the one you want to assign from the menu and tap the room again.

EQUIPMENT MENU

From here, you can change equipment, change your looks with Vanity items and Dyes.. and even show or hide accessories. This is also where you can toggle informational accessory information tooltips off/on via the little grid underneath the armor in the screen above.

FILE ACCESS - BACKUP, RESTORE, AND MORE!

With the Mobile 1.3 Terraria update, you now have access to your Terraria files using the native (or downloadable) Files apps on your mobile device. This will allow you to make backup copies, move your own files between Cloud-Local or even to other devices with ease. You can even make your own adventure maps and then email the world to your friends or share it elsewhere online!

How this works is a bit different between Android and iOS - so we wanted to give everyone some nice guides on how this works. Check those out below!

ANDROID - BACKING UP AND RESTORING PLAYERS/WORLDS

IOS - BACKING UP AND RESTORING PLAYERS/WORLDS

MOBILE SAVE CONVERSION

Have an existing save from the current 1.2 version of Mobile Terraria? Don't worry, the DR Studios team have made sure that you will be able to continue your adventure with your old saves into the new and exciting world of 1.3! When you first launch the new update on your console, your current saves will be converted over to the new format as a part of startup. This is a one time process and it shouldn't take long at all!

Once your worlds and players are converted to the new file format, they will be located in the Worlds and Players folders just like any new worlds/players you create in 1.3. Your old saves - in their current format - will be kept safe and sound in the 'Old Saves' folder just in case there are any conversion issues that we missed. If something occurs, once we have the fix in, it is as simple as deleting the converted files from the Worlds/Players folders (see above guides) and then re-converting your old saves again. If you need help with this, do not hesitate to ask.. of course, we are pretty confident there will not be any major issues for you.

MULTIPLAYER

As we shared during the livestream event in July (Video Here), Mobile Terraria 1.3 will come with both Local and Online Multiplayer! You will be able to see these options under your Multiplayer menu once you get in game.

How will this work? We have placed some details below in regards to Online Multiplayer, and we have also made an attempt at a guide that you can find linked below:

TERRARIA MOBILE MULTIPLAYER SETUP GUIDE

For Local Multiplayer, you simply need to be on the same Wifi Network as the host device (either a PC running the Server Program or another device). You will see the host/server appear on your 'Local' tab if a valid hosted game is available. Yes, even local games can be password protected to keep your annoying brother out of your world.

You can download the Dedicated PC Server for Mobile Terraria via the link below:

DEDICATED PC SERVER FOR MOBILE TERRARIA

Here is a quick/brief summary of online multiplayer..

How will this work?

  • Online multiplayer will work much like non-Steam PC multiplayer does. This means that you will need to enter the IP address from the host, along with the port and any password that the host sets.
  • Once you enter all of that information and tap 'Join', then you are in!
  • We chose this method to ensure that Android and iOS players can play together, rather than sticking to the device family specific systems. It's a bit more complex, but opens up way more possibilities - and players.
  • Do remember that performance and the like will be dependent on device specifications and your network. Connecting via a lower-end supported device on a 3G connection will obviously see more potential issues than a top end device over blazing fast wifi.

What are the limitations?

  • The team targeted and has done extensive testing with 2-8 players. However, we are looking into expanding that to as much as 16 in the future - no promises though!
  • On local connections (same wifi), remember that the hosting device will be shouldering a lot of the load - so older/less capable devices will struggle more with performance and may not be able to host as many players as a newer device. There are too many devices out there to be able to pinpoint which device can do what (especially in regards to Android), so some experimentation may be needed.
  • It bears repeating that performance and the like will be dependent on device specifications and your network. Connecting via a lower-end supported device on a 3G connection will obviously see more potential issues than a top end device over blazing fast wifi.
